Firstly, I have to apologise for the delay in getting this post out. It is nearly four months since we completed the Overland Track. It hasn't taken me this long to recover!
Alright I am ready now to take the time to build this post over several days or weeks, such was the epic journey that we went on, it deserves depth of response.
I have to say that without doubt it ranks as equal with the best journeys we have taken with friends. Nearly a 100 kilometres walked over eight days, a day journey to the start of the walk and three days at the end celebrating with awesome friends.
Early starts, long days, sunshine, rain, spectacular scenery, nudie swims, sore bits (all over), challenging moments, tears, laughs, smiles...... You name it, we had it and loved the entire package!
At the end, the only question we had was, "where next!" Oh, and of course how much for the bottle of "Jansz"..... Not that it mattered how much we paid at 10.30am to celebrate the end of the journey... Just quietly, it was worth the $58!
So before the walk began our first day started at 5.30am With the journey to the airport..... To be continued!
We started overnight hikes in Jan 2012 after a friend suggested we do the Overland Track. I didn't require any convincing, trained in PE and Outdoor Ed, I involved my passion in the outdoors in wilderness programs for at risk youth. Andrea also loves walking, be it the dog or up a mountain. The only thing she wasn't sure of was the 15kg pack. So we did a trial run, borrowed equipment, raided the shed. The rest is a developing story of journeys, initially in Victoria but hopefully far and wide.
